About Barley

We're an independent craft and world beer bar in the heart of Salisbury — ten rotating founts, a hand-picked line-up of world beers, vinyl on the stereo, and a lot more going on than just what's in your glass.

Inside Barley, an independent craft and world beer bar in Salisbury

Not Your Average Pub

Since day one

Barley started as a simple idea: a place to try something you've never had before, without anyone making you feel silly for asking what it tastes like. Ten rotating founts pour rare key-keg and cask ales, alongside a hand-picked selection of over 100 beers from around the world.

Grab a seat in our courtyard for some fresh air, while the tunes spin purely from vinyl — bring your own record and we'll play it. But the bar is really just the start. There's a lot more going on under the surface, and that's what makes us more than a bar.

More Than A Bar

Three reasons to stick around

Small plates served alongside a flight of beers at a Beer & Food Night at Barley
Once a month

Beer & Food Nights

We team up with a different local chef or supper club to build a menu entirely around whatever's pouring that week. Expect small plates designed to complement the beer rather than compete with it — think charred flatbreads next to a hoppy pale, or a rich beef shin ragu alongside something dark and malty.

Tables are kept small on purpose, so it never feels like a big set-menu event. The full line-up and pairing notes go up on Instagram about two weeks out — worth following if you don't want to miss a seat.

Teams competing at Barley's fortnightly pub quiz
Every other Thursday

Pub Quiz

From 7:30pm our quizmaster runs eight rounds for teams of up to six — general knowledge, music, and at least one round that's unapologetically about beer. It's free to enter, and it's become one of our busiest nights, so it's worth booking a table if you want a good spot.

Winners take home a bar tab. Everyone else just takes home the satisfaction of finally remembering the answer on the walk home.

Local homebrewers sharing their latest batches at Barley's Homebrew Club
Last Sunday of the month

Homebrew Club

Salisbury's homebrewers bring in their latest batches to share, swap notes, and get some honest feedback from the room. Whether you've been brewing for twenty years or just bottled your first batch in the kitchen, everyone's welcome to pour a taster and talk shop.

We've even put a few members' beers on tap as one-off collaborations — so the next pint you order here might have started life in someone's garage down the road.
